The Travis County Civil and Family Courts Facility is set to officially open to the public on February 6, 2023. It is located at 1700 Guadalupe Street, Austin, Texas 78701. The new building has 25 courtrooms, including 15 jury courtrooms, six non-jury courtrooms, one child protective services courtroom, one special proceedings courtroom and two State of Texas Attorney General child support hearing rooms.
Pursuant to the Texas Supreme Court Emergency Order, hearings will now resume in person. In District courts, statutory county courts, and constitutional county courts, the court must not require a lawyer, party, or juror to appear remotely for a jury trial, absent the agreement of the parties. As parties must "announce" the week before their scheduled hearing, the new announcement form allows parties to sign in agreement of a virtual hearing. It may be a case by case situation whether witnesses may be permitted to appear virtually if the parties are in person. It is best to speak with your attorney to discuss this for the latest information.
